Making a Rustic Wooden Table Centerpiece. This is a centerpiece that I made out of cherry wood. It's meant to be used for holding cakes or other such dishes. This was my first experimentation with 40% aqueous sucrose solution to prevent splitting. The center did eventually split slightly, but the rest of the wood showed no signs of expansion, which is great.
Update- After about a week after it was made, the centerpiece was accidentally exposed to freezing temperatures. This caused a 1/2 in. split in the circular. Based upon this, the 40% sucrose solution may not work well when the wood is exposed to low temperatures, however, there are other factors involved in how well it may perform, such as soaking time and drying time.
