Tell me about yourself (Interview question) Seven excellent examples. Often, at the beginning of an interview, the interviewer will say, “Tell me about yourself.” Don’t tell them details about yourself that have nothing to do with your occupation or the job your are applying for. For example, if you’re applying for a job at a restaurant don’t say, “I love watching the Three Stooges!” “Soccer has always been my favorite sport. I wish I could have played professionally.” Or if you are applying to be a teller, don’t say, “I love tacos! I usually eat five or six tacos every day!” or “My dream is to be a circus clown.” When the interviewer says, tell me about yourself, they want you to tell them about your employment history, educational experience, your occupational skills and any other life experience that it pertinent to the job you are applying for. Here are a few examples of what you can tell the interviewer when he says, “Tell me about yourself.” After you watch the examples, write down your own answer. Practice it until you can say in naturally.
I majored in Spanish Education and minored in English Education at the University. For the last ten years I’ve been teaching English as a second language, GED in Spanish, basic computer, job readiness and other subjects. I’ve enjoyed interacting with students and helping them to learn using a variety of methods. I look forward to using my teaching skills at your school.
I’ve worked in the field for most of my life where I’ve learned a variety of skills. I’ve learned to effectively pick, sort, pack, and load fruits and vegetables. I also have a lot of experience working with others to finish a job quickly and effectively. I know that working hard and as a team is important to your company, based on what I read in the job description. For that reason, I believe that I would be a very good fit for this position.
I have a lot of experience working in restaurants. I’ve worked at McDonald’s and Burger King for four years. At both of those restaurants I was a dishwasher, cashier, cook and a general cleaner. In addition, I’ve become a very good multitasker which I especially learned while taking orders for the drive through. I look forward to bringing my skills to Olive Garden.
I’ve been making and selling food for one year now. I’ve made a variety of foods but I’m especially good at making tamales, empanadas and tacos. I have a passion for making good food and I had a lot of repeat customers. Also, I love to keep things very clean and sanitary around the kitchen. For those reasons, I know that I would be a good employee at your restaurant.
I’ve been cleaning houses for three years now. By the third month, I had thirty repeat customers. Many of them told me that they decided to have me clean their homes on a regular basis because of my attention to detail and because I go the extra mile. Recently, I took a custodian training course to get certified to clean at schools. For those reasons, I know that I would be an excellent janitor at your school. And I look forward to the opportunity.
I take care of my little brothers and sisters whenever my parents aren’t home. I’ve been doing that since I was fourteen years old. I help my siblings do their chores and homework. After they finish doing their chores and homework, we play together. I’ve never gotten paid to take care of them but I’ve learned a lot about responsibility, work and helping other people. I know that this experience would make me a good fit for the position I’m applying for.
I’ve been involved in different extracurricular activities at my high school, including sports, band and the service club. In the service club I’ve participated in multiple community service projects. I’ve cleaned up trash around the city, helped feed people at the homeless shelter, and planted trees where they were burned down. I really enjoy helping other people and I know I would be really good at interacting with customers if I am hired.
